Surgical Hand and skin preparation

Composition:
Ethyl Alcohol IP- 70%v/v
Chlorohexidene gluconate IP- 2.5% v/v
(equivellent to 0.5% w/v chlorhexidene gluconate with emollients , moisturizer, permitted colour and fragrance)
PERSISTANT AND RESIDUAL ACTIVITY
The Handguard preparation works by dehydrating the cell. it is a broad spectrum virucidal , bactericidal and fungicidal hand sanitizer. The Handguard skin antiseptic is absorbed through the bacterial cell wall obstructing its permeability hence interferes with the physiological activity of the cell leading to its destruction which provides residual and cumulative protection against microorganisms. Handguard skin antiseptic is active against most Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. It is also active against some lipophilic viruses.

Areas of Application
Handguard is an alcohol based instant hand sanitizer suitable for pre and post-surgical procedures.
Directions for use:
Surgical hand sanitization: Pour 9 ml (approx. 3 pushes) of Handguard over the clean dry hand, nails and grooves up to elbow.
Rub vigorously for 3 min.
Hygienic hand sanitization: Pour 6 ml (approx. 2 pushes) of Handguard over the clean dry hand, nails and grooves.
Rub vigorously for 30 second.
Mode of action:
chlorhexidine has the unique ability to bind to the proteins present in human tissues such as skin and mucous membranes with limited systemic or bodily absorption. Protein bound chlorhexidine releases slowly leading to prolonged activity. This phenomenon is known as substantively and allows for a longer duration of antimicrobial action against a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi.
In fact, chlorhexidine's antimicrobial activity has been documented to last at least 48 hours on the skin.14Unlike povidone-iodine, chlorhexidine is not affected by the presence of body fluids such as blood.
Chlorhexidine has also been applied to medical devices such as dental implants, vascular catheters, needleless connectors and antimicrobial dressings. Chlorhexidine, when applied to or impregnated in medical devices kills organisms and protects against microbial colonization and subsequently biofilm development.
Precaution:
